well i don't know for such a "discussion" on Rpi forum

suspect it's been overtaken by Python, which has a large user base, and it consistent over all platforms, which is less common with BASIC. Python is slighter better structured, and has more language features.

Nothing really wrong with modern BASICS, but more people use Python.

How does Python make a good option to modern BASIC? I thought that python is lacking one of the most important parts of structured programming, explicitly typed variables, which BASIC deos have. I understand that Python has the power of being pushed by many users, still not sure that makes it a good option.

But in more general terms there is a pervasive discouragement of using Basic.

Why does it matter? If you like BASIC and have a decent interpreter for the rPI, then just use it. Don't fret over what others think - people have been slagging BASIC off for decades now.

Why does it matter?

It doesn't. Or it does, but only for "internet BASIC woriors" who can't accept that BASIC isn't mainstream anymore and want to prove BASIC's greatness to people who neither listen to them or are interested in BASIC. Those who simply like to code in BASIC, do it and don't care about its place in today's programming landscape.

well ...yes is not mainstream ...and that is the fact.
well some says python ..yes but python as such was never used very much on Windows
and that is the fact too.
....that story is from RaspberryPi forum...
where one guy ask why BASIC is not much more used on Rpi.
To be honest and all who know something about programming must agree...
BASIC have advantage over python on such a small and limited plaform as RPi.
if you use just pyhon core then u got nothing but any solid basic interpreter with built in specific
stuff for Rpi shuld give good results...

You're absolutely right of course. Those who code in BASIC (or like me, who tend to not code in BASIC) already know what BASIC means to them.

oups i forgot that RPi is comercial thing :-X

and look this:
BASIC is too easy to use and understandable to be taken serious by real programmers.

too easy for who ?
which dialect is too easy?
give me a break...

Everybody talking about programming languages should watch this video:

It is of course from a game developers point of view.
