It doesn't look good this time. Cybermonkey, do you know anything? You're the only bp.org administrator I've got contact to.
-
Sorry, I was suprised by this, too. I really don't know what happened, I hope I can contact Derek.
-
Hi,
I emailed Thomas about bp.org last night but haven't had a reply.
derek@del:~$ ping www.basicprogramming.org
ping: unknown host www.basicprogramming.org
derek@del:~$ ping forum.basicprogramming.org
ping: unknown host forum.basicprogramming.org
derek@del:~$ host forum.basicprogramming.org
Host forum.basicprogramming.org not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
derek@del:~$ host www.basicprogramming.org
Host www.basicprogramming.org not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
I have no idea what, if anything, we can read into that nor do I know why this has happened.
If I do hear anything from Thomas I'll let you know.
Edit: I should have said that the domain is registered until mid December.
-
Thomas hasn't posted to the bp.org forum since before Christmas when he promised Yab3 would make an appearance - looks like we could be waiting a while... :(
Is there any other way the forum could be reactivated without Thomas' input if he doesn't reply?
-
I got a response from Thomas:
Hi! I’ve contacted EKV to ask him to check the domain details –
the domain status, as per http://whois.domaintools.com/basicprogramming.org,
is “On Hold (generic).”
Cheers,
Tom.

If the problem is a domain name, the site should be accessible via its IP address. Who is the owner of a server space on which the site is being hosted?
-
Thomas has replied to me and he is going to have to contact E Virtinan to check some details. That's all he told me.

See here (http://whois.domaintools.com/basicprogramming.org). Also read this page (https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/what-is-diff-on-hold-generic-on-hold-redemption-period-on-hold-pending-delete.1229549/) for the meaning of "Domain Status On-hold (generic)". From that I think we can all jump to a conclusion and not be too far from the truth.
Is anyone here a member of the World of Spectrum forums (http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=48649)? I know several members of BP.org are also Wossers and a question about the disappearance has been asked. Perhaps someone here may be kind enough to let them hear this titbit of news.

I know for a fact that there's nothing I can do and I assume the same goes for CM, too. Even though myself and CM are admins we only have control over the forum - anything to do with the server is out of bounds to us.

I'm not talking about a domain. A domain name and a web space are two separate things. They can be bought separately from different providers and linked together. They can be bought for different periods of time and the fact that the domain has expired doesn't mean that the website content is gone. So, who's got the access to the server? Is it Thomas, or is it still EKV? It may be possible to access the content of the forum, even if the domain is "on hold".

Yes, I'm a Wosser...I'll try and post later tonight...

Well, a bit offtopic, but it's not only bp.org which has problems ... see attached screenshot for more information.
But it was only for a few minutes. FB is up again ...

Tomaaz,
Why don't you join us on the OxygenBasic.org forum. At the moment the focus is Lisp in BASIC. I have TinyScheme working as an extension module for Script BASIC. Works great. Rob (Lisp expert) keeps the thread interesting, The Script BASIC project could use your help as well.
John
-
John, thanks for the invitation, but I really don't have time at the moment (my family got bigger in June ;)). Maybe in the future.
So, I understand that's the end of bp.org... :(

Life can suck the fun right out of you. :'(
I'm not asking you to be the great resource you have been in the past, just join us and give us your take. If you see AIR around, bring him with you. 8)
BP.org = Too many cooks in the kitchen.
-
I knew I shouldn't have used bp.org as a backup place for my source code ...
-
On a positive note, it's one less site I'm banned from. :)

Why the heck were you banned, you're such a peaceful chum?
-
I think there were only three members ever banned from bp.org. John, me and Aurel. And I'm pretty sure that no one who was visiting that forum frequently is surprised seeing these three names here. ;) Cybermonkey, how could you be so cruel (of course, he will blame Derek!)? ;D
-
Well, the three of you tend to appear like this in my mind ... some times :)

Now you're getting close. Love Jack!
-
Are you sure it is Jack? ;D
-
Aurel !
How did I miss that. :o
-
I really miss that guy... I think he's registered here, so maybe he'll join the conversation and there will be a big chance that we'll be... banned from a next forum. ;D
-
I really miss that guy...
We all need someone to abuse. :-X
-
Shame about Bp.org - it was the only forum that I know of dedicated to every BASIC - people using different dialects could get together to share opinions, ideas and support. It was great that beginners like me could learn from and get help from developers and some pretty knowledgeable people...plus it was pretty open to discussions (mostly ;)) on other languages too...
Now I guess we'll just frequent the forums of the BASICs / other languages that we use...
What's happened anyway - was it EVK or Thomas that had control over the site? Thomas hadn't been around since Christmas and didn't EVK get into Java?

More than likely someone got feed up with paying the bills and didn't bother to let anyone else know the site was doomed. (my guess)

May be just a coincidence ;) but Thomas' Yabasic 3 site has gone too...

Nice investigative work Richey! Make sense to me.
Thomas was too strange to be owning URL's and controlling forums. And taking on the role of a project manager for a well known BASIC to boot. I shouldn't bitch, the US elected the Bush clan more times than I can remember. :-\
-
Yeah, "With great power comes great responsibility".
-
bp.org is back up and this (http://statusblog.myhosting.com/2013/12/17/icann-update-requires-attention/) is the reason why it went down.

Sort of a boring explanation ;) I had hoped for something way more exciting.
-
Great news! :) However, I'm still banned. :( Can anyone do something with that?

Put in a good word for me. :)

I vote for both Tomaaz and John to be reinstated as members!
Great news it's back. :)
Ps I'll post on WOS tonight.
-
The Yabasic 3 site is back too ;)
-
I should probably explain that I wasn't banned by anyone. Two days before the site went off-line I banned myself, by changing my email address. I changed it to the one I was using before I was banned years ago and, probably, the old ban was reactivated.
-
Can I change your account to another email? All email adresses ending with .pl are banned ... it might be for some reason so I'd better not change that.
-
Can I change your account to another email?
tomaaz(at)outlook.com Thanx! :)

Done.
@John: you can log in again, but please keep calm and don't bash other (BASIC) dialects.
-
Thanks!
I'm trying to get the #AllBASIC IRC channel to be more active. Garrett (Programmer's Haven forum admin) is a regular. The #ALLBASIC IRC is open to anyone interested in BASIC. Chats go off topic often depending who is participating. It's just an extended (live) collaboration option to a forum.
I think an announcement on BP.org by you (as Paul Dunn did) would result in a more positive result. Paul helps out as a SYSOP on the channel from time to time.
