Asus Google Nexus 7 inch Tablet
« on: July 22, 2013, 10:46:27 AM »
I dont know much about tablets and dont have a smartphone.
I'm thinking of getting one of these as a carry (almost) everywhere device (couch, train, bar, beach,...)
Anyone else out there got one or got advice?

I've got a no-name china tablet with 10" and dual core processor. It's just for couch surfing but very useful. For me the 7" tablets were too small. For carrying with me I got my iPod touch.
If you want to have your Android system always up to date, I'd recommend a Google tablet, though.

Im not too concerned about op system as long as I dont have to learn it. Main thing is that device should run html5 canvas and web gl.

WebGL works AFAIK only with the Android version of Firefox. The built-in browser and chrome of Android 4.1 (which works on my device) don't do WebGL.

@Cybermonkey
Many thanks. You have prompted me to get off my butt and do some research.
I found useful link at
  http://caniuse.com/webgl
which basically agrees with what you say.
The world of tablets and pods is quite confusing to me at present.
I see that a new version of the Nexus 7 is imminent so I might wait and see what that has.
I hope WebGL becomes more widely accessible.
Ive been playing around with Three.JS and thinking about how to wrap it with my Browzic language.
Here's a link to my latest plaything PONGO (written in javascript using Three.js)

but you wont see much if your browser doesnt support WebGL :(
cheers, SteveOW.

PS I found this about enabling WebGL on Chrome-for-Android (4.1.?)
