It's time to state the obvious - this place is DEAD. :'( If anyone knows ACTIVE and friendly forums dedicated to hobby programmers, please post the links here. Thanx! Hope to see you there.

Yeah it's a bit sad it's all gone quiet. What's everyone been working on lately?

I had a pause from working on SmallBASIC for a while but have started working on a couple of things just for run.

I had a pause from working on SmallBASIC for a while but have started working on a couple of things just for run.

I've been with QB64, new stable version 1.3 arrived earlier this month along with overhaul of home page, some nice graphics tools and yet they don't have hard coded circle fill.  :o

Now I guess it's time for Aurel to tell us what a ship it is.  ;D

it is NOT projects than just examples, demos

projects should be larger programs like
games , web apps, real-world apps...like
image viewer, drawing programs..with raster graphic
solid state GUI apps...etc..etc...

i don't see any of such a programs on qb64 forum
i understand that most of people there are interested for things i don't have interest
or i am too lazy to learn Quick Basic again..(never be a fan of original MS Quick basic too) ::)
what hold all that people there is a sort of mistery  to me  :D
all best..

Right, projects is probably the wrong word for what I mess around with as hobby.

The FreeBasic forum is pretty active. Even more so: VB

Some activity at MasmBasic, too.

hey JJ
We must look on his post as irrelevant ..why?
simply because he don't like BASIC in any shape.
You say ...FreeBasic,VB,MasmBasic... all that is not good enough for him.
Yes Mark(BPLUS) have right QB64 forum is very active( much more than any other)
( but that is for people who are biased to Quick Basic programming.)
For my taste it is too retro ...even can be found some interesting programs.
From another point...there is a Oxygen Basic forum which is not much active
and is a real shame why is not.
Why i think that way?
Not just because i am member there than:
Oxygen Basic is standalone compiler which compile directly into machine code.
It have syntax much close to traditional Basic than many other dialects.
It offer full freedom to include files and user defined functions/macros
etc..etc... so why is not more popular ...
some may say there is no solid documentation ..yes i can agree with that
also maybe is problem with hmmm you know .
FB forum is active  so..soo ..not like in the past...

etc ..etc...etc...

What about:
  • qb64 itself?  qb64 is written in qb64.  It is quite a large application.  Just try compiling all of QuickBasic sometime.  It is no easy feat.
  • The qb64 IDE.  Again, a very non trivial application
  • VWatch, the qb64 debugger is written in qb64.  Again, not a simple program.
  • Inform, the qb64 form designer.  Another very large and complicated program.
  • There are quite a few non-trivial games that have been posted.

So, I do not think your argument is valid.  I think (well, I know :-) ) you just do not like qb64.  Which is ok.  To each his own.  But apparently, there are quite a few folks who do like programming in qb64, and they have generated many non-trivial programs.

just to repeat myself:

For my taste it is too retro ...even can be found some interesting programs.

Well -- like OR don't like ..we talk about that before  :D
I simply don't feel this dialect as playground for me  ;D
by the way i use DavsIDE for playing with qb64 programs

BUT here is not talk about QB64...ok if someone want use it ..just goo!
@tomaaz as usual like to spread his opinions like ..everything about hobby programming

That this forum is dead is not my opinion - it's a fact. Even now - the only active topic is this one (the one about the place being dead). Of course, comparing to your new forum (which has one member writing and replying to himself) this place is pretty busy. I have nothing against any language and would like to see a forum for hobyists who use different languages. I already know all major forums dedicated to specific languages/BASIC dialects, but they are not what I'm looking for.

@Tomaaz This is probably the most active forum on the Internet as far as retro/hobby programming. Its a very niche hobby.
