What OS do you use?
« on: September 01, 2018, 02:27:13 PM »
I was gone for a year or more. In the meantime I stopped using Windows at all (the only Windows machine in my home is my son's) and found several good Linux distribution. What about you?  ;)

BunsenLabs Linux  (main distro) - https://www.bunsenlabs.org/
Solus (better support for video and external monitors on my laptop) - https://solus-project.com/
Puppy Linux (from USB stick, when needed) - http://puppylinux.com/

EDIT I've selected wrong option. :( Should be "Other Linux distro" for Puppy.

Not much changed. I am using on my main desktop PC Windows 10 Home on a 1 TB HDD and Kubuntu 18.04 on a 500 GB HDD (both internally). On my Netbook I am using Windows 10 Pro and on my Tablet Windows 10 Home. Since two weeks I got now a Rapberry Pi 3 B+ and I am using Raspbian for now on it.

OK. I can see that I should have thought a bit longer about this poll. Missed Android (yes, you can use it on desktop, if you wish) and Apple stuff(!!!).

My development OS is Ubuntu 64 bit. I run VitualBox images of ReactOS, XP, Win7 and Win10. (all 32 but versions) I have a dedicated Win7 64 bit partition on my old laptop I use occasionally.

OK. Since there were only two people who already voted (including me), I've decided to reset the poll. Please, vote! If you did it already, please do it again (sorry!).  :)

:-\ Does Android on my desktop mean I can't use it on my NOOK?
(Not that I'd would't force my worse enemy to use that pop up keypad.)

You can use it on whatever you want, but this poll is about desktop.

And, please - vote!

I still use a couple of 8-bit systems (6809 and 8052) for instrument control (no OS, but on-board BASIC), and I do a fair bit with moderm microcontrollers.

Shall we talk about the PDP-11/23 (under RT-11) or the Dragon-32 that I still own?

Tomaaz might let you if they are still being actively developed.  ;D

RT-11 on a PDP-11/23 was where I came to once in the world of computers. :)

Later on there appeared Soviet clones of same but their MTBF (a.k.a. mean time between failures) was somewhere on the order of 3 to 5 hours or so only, mainly due to the monitor static electricity breakdowns that used to also kill the CPU video controller:

Intel PC's and compatibles were unavailable on our side of the Iron Curtain until the late Gorby times due to the COCOM restrictions.

My first computer was a Heathkit PDP-11 with paper tape reader/punch and a DEC Writter keyboard printer combo.

I built the computer and tape puch/reader.

My first program was a bio-rhythm program in DEC BASIC.

My main dev OS is currently Windows 7 with occasional tests on Win 10 and XP for future and backward compatibility. My Ubuntu is just to keep up with the Joneses and my macOS is for my leisure time with the Hammond organ plugin for the Garage Band app. :)
